FIRE--WHAT DO YOU PACK IN CASE YOU HAVE TO LEAVE?

We've been under voluntary evacuation orders since Sunday. Our fire is called the Sequoia Complex Fire.

We've been afraid to leave the house in case the orders changed to mandatory and we couldn't get back home. That's happened to friends who live right on the other side of town.

Now it's Friday and we're enduring extremely smoky air, but more fire crews and equipment have come in from other places, even out of state. Structures have been lost, but the fire fighters are trying to save others.

On Sunday night I packed all our important papers--they were in a fire proof safe, but who knows. I also packed some of the things that hubby got for his 90th birthday, a book with letters from family members and a wonderful picture frame that family and friends can sen photos too. (Then I unpacked it and plugged it back in. Didn't want to miss anything new. All of the photos from the big family 90th birthday party for hubby are on it. And kids and grandkids have sent many more.

Of course I packed meds, and some stuff I need to keep track of work I do for others. I have a new laptop that I've done nothing with and an IPad I use when I'm out of town--they are loaded and ready to go.

I started packing a bag with clothes but didn't get very far.

And of course, if I do have to leave, I'm unplugging my computer and taking it with me.

At this point, I'm thinking they are getting a handle on the fire. This one is huge, way bigger than the one we had 3 years ago. The last report said it was 6% contained. We also heard there is a 20% chance of rain on Friday. That would be wonderful.

Because of the smoke, we can't even see the closes hills and of course none of the mountains.

I'm praying that the fire will be fully contained soon and I can put unpack and put things where they belong.

That's my report for the day.

Being in Northern California, I've had a go bag packed and ready. I change the clothes and toiletries out every season. Earthquakes, floods, or wildfires-I'm ready! Stay safe!!
We're still home. The fire is huge, but mainly in uninhabited areas. The big problem here is when they quit the logging and prescribed burns. too many dead trees and undergrowth. The sequoias will survive as they need fire. The smoke is horrible.
