Missing a Unique Time at Church

Because I'm at the L.A. Times Book Festival on the UCLA campus today, I am unable to attend church services at the Springville Baptist Church--the church where I've been a member since 1981.

Today is Youth Sunday, and our little church is celebrating by having the youth take over the entire service. Kids will be collecting the offering, singing and leading the singing, giving the announcements and the missions moment. And yes, two young men are each giving a sermon. One is sixteen and my great grandson, Brandon. The other is my granddaughter Jessica's fiance, Juan. Juan is nineteen.

Oh, how I'd love to be there and see and her how these kids do. I've heard Brandon preach before. He gets nervous and paces a lot.

Once his younger brother preached at one of these Youth Services, he was about 10. He preached about adultery. (The kids get to write their own sermons.) That was quite interesting--certainly kept everyone's attention.

I won't miss out completely as my daughter is going to film the event.

I'll be sending up a prayer asking for guidance for these two young men.

Like I do with many folks, I met Morgen through the Internet when I learned about the great interviews she does. I thought it would be fun to turn the tables on Morgen and find out something things about her, so here goes: Morgen, except for the fact that you do terrific interviews I know very little about you. Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special. Everyone loves here, young and old alike. I was in the delivery room when she was born--exciting and wonderous. I babysat her many times until her mom and dad moved to Central California.
