Just Thought I'd Ask a Few Questions

On another blog that I post on regularly, one of the other regulars decided to ask all the readers of that blog a few questions. I thought it would be fun to do the same thing here--and from time to time.

Here are the questions and my answers:

1. What was your first paying job?

Babysitting.

2. What was your favorite paying job?

I had several, but I think I loved the ten years I spent as a teacher to pre-schoolers with developmental disabilities the best. That job opened doors for other jobs that followed.

3. What was the first concert you ever attended?

I am not really a concert going person. I went to several L.A. Philharmonic concerts as a school kid--but the first and only pop concert was when I was a young teen and got to see a very young Frank Sinatra at a special program just for teens at the May Co. in downtown Los Angeles.

4. What do you do that makes you feel young?

Hang out with my younger friends. I have a bunch of them. Some are friends from church, others are writers, and I have one friend who watches General Hospital and we like to talk about it on the phone.

Now your turn--answer my 4 questions please .

My first paying job: Bookkeeper in my father's lumber company

My favorite paying job: Training coordinator for 4 Sears stores in Puerto Rico

My first concert: I was in it--Jr. High Band concert where I played the clarinet

What makes me feel young? Visiting my grandchildren
Hi, Betsy, thanks for responding. I would never have ironed for anyone, no matter how much they paid.

Plamaltas, being with my grands and greatgrands is great--but doesn't make me feel young, mainly because I can't do things with them I could have when I was younger. Thanks for your answers.

1st job was babysitting. If I loved it our hated it depended on the kid.
Favorite job is being a cop.
My first concert was Sonny and Cher.
And having friends of all ages. The young ones keep me engaged with life and the ones older always make me feel young and show me I have a lot left to live
Hey, Dee, you got to see Sonny and Cher? That must've been great. I've gotten to the point that I'm way older than most of my friends. Thanks for your answers.

My first paying job: baby sitting the little girls next door.
My favortie paying job: My current profession- Speech Language Pathologist. I think I have a passion for my work and for my students.
My first concert: Probably something at the fair grounds but what I really remember is when I started dating Mark he took me to Travis Tritt (country artist) @ Universal Ampitheater and then he got out of a speeding ticket on the way home. I couldn't believe it.
What makes me feel young: When I exercise. I still surprise myself how strong and coordinated I am.
Genie, those were great answers. It also makes me feel young to hang out with my adult grandkids, like you!
Ah, so that's your secret--hanging out with younger people!!

Marilyn, I forget how old I am when I'm with the younger set--remember, it doesn't take much to be younger than I am.

First paying job: Mama wouldn't let me baby-sit (she'd had a scare once as a teen when she was sitting for a couple and their baby stopped breathing and turned blue, but she ran to the people next door carrying the baby and it gasped and started breathing again--but she never kept children after that and wouldn't let me do it). So if you count one-shots, I helped my best friend Michelle's dad with inventory when we were in fifth grade (she and I counted receipts and such). If not, I worked for three weeks one summer making Dairy Queen dipped cones. I perfected that little curl on the top!

Favorite paying job: E-Systems Garland as a software engineer for eight years after college

First concert: Paul Simon solo, at McFarlin Auditorium at SMU with my best friend Ann. (We were 15.) We had front-row tickets because when I went to get the tickets and looked SO SAD about how far back we'd have to sit, the lady there pulled out two front-row tickets and sold them to me. I wish digital cameras had been around!! It was an "unplugged" intimate visit concert!

What makes me feel young: Certainly not reminiscing like this--I'm older than dirt. Let's see . . . y'know, I never feel old, although I know I am. When I'm answering trivia questions and beating the tar out of the youngsters in the room, that's good. When I'm writing a YA novel, I channel my main POV character, so that makes me feel fourteen!

First job: Babysitting five days a week. The wife worked odd hours and the husband worked days.
Favorite Paying Job: Law Enforcement (clerical). It was both interesting and fun.
First Concert: We didn't have concerts where I lived, but several famous rock and roll bands played at civic centers and places like that. I went to several and saw the Olympics, The Rightous Bros. (I think it was their first public appearance), and the coasters. We got to dance to their music instead of sitting and watching.
Young: I believe youth is a state of mind, so I try to think young.

What was my favorite paying job? Publishing the Tule River Times, hands down!

What was the first concert I went to? The Herman's Hermits! hahaha! My favorite was The Doors!

What do I do that makes me feel young? Hang out with my kids and grandbabes. Oh, and put on my make-up, which I call "bondo." ;-)
Pat, I was a telephone operator, information and long distance, eons ago. Loved it.

Valeri--I loved it when you published the Tule River Times and I wrote articles for you.

Funny, but first job was baby-sitting, too. For my mother's cousin. As soon as I hit 15, I got a job after school in a second hand men's clothing store.

My favorite paying job is the one I have now - part time school bus driver. Leaves me lots of time for writing and I happen to like kids. Most of them. Maybe I've come full circle and I'm back to baby-sitting.

Went to a lot of concerts and don't remember in which order - Elvis, Sammy Davis, Jr., Johnny Mathis, and Peter, Paul and Mary come to mind.

To feel young, I try not to look in mirrors and keep in mind that I'll never grow old because I'll never grow up.

Yep, Earl, looking in mirrors can be a shocking reality check.
