while engaging your thought process to see if you can figure out who has committed
the evil deed. I invite you to such a challenge, one Iβm sure is worthy of your
ability and interest, to solve the crimes before the end of the various
stories. <i>Murder, Mayhem and Ghost Stories </i>is a series of short and very
short stories about murder, mayhem and ghostly happenings that I have
successfully written and published over the years. Most were for a particular
magazine requiring a specific number of words, e.g., 100 to 2000 words. The
book is divided into categories and there is one very special story written by

He is attracted to a fellow officer's wife and begins plotting the demise of his own wife in order to collect the insurance. But this book is so much more. We see what is happening in the lives of the other police officers and also in the lives of some of the Rocky Bluff citizens. There is a Wednesday rapist, break-ins around the area where nothing much is taken, an accidental police shooting, a run-away whose parents don't even care enough to report him missing, and preferential treatment of certain citizens. The author takes all these threads and weaves them together into a tightly woven plot that will keep you guessing.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #0f1111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #0f1111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #0f1111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">I loved this book and look forward to more visits in Rocky Bluff. It has had two differnt covers, and 3 publishers.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8WpL-tbk0l1-wrBooh1kMwKaEDx8dUn6VLcVFF5alIUg1r8aXdDWRIjjsn8YLTcFPvseGmC1LTYt1FDd6TO9sIJJWxxSCkxRePVtaYZ8lnPmA06EfSk_8xadrKwZTEiQEDTJ0hTXzLS5QxEdh6WJUeG8q31W4OQC4oiLK-nJqS4868e0fycuwKCrpeC39/s2700/Trail%20to%20Glory%20new%20cover.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2700" data-original-width="1800" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8WpL-tbk0l1-wrBooh1kMwKaEDx8dUn6VLcVFF5alIUg1r8aXdDWRIjjsn8YLTcFPvseGmC1LTYt1FDd6TO9sIJJWxxSCkxRePVtaYZ8lnPmA06EfSk_8xadrKwZTEiQEDTJ0hTXzLS5QxEdh6WJUeG8q31W4OQC4oiLK-nJqS4868e0fycuwKCrpeC39/s320/Trail%20to%20Glory%20new%20cover.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>While I still lived in Oxnard I wrote a police procedural based on what my cop son-in-law told me about what happened each night on the job. I had fun writing it. I have two grown daughters who live in 55 plus communities, both quite different, but I combined elements of both into the fictional retirement community in THE TRASH HAREM.</div><div><br /></div><div>2. I love the Temecula area where the story unfolds. I used many place I've visited and made up some.</div><div><br /></div><div>3. Some of the legends and history of the Pechanga Indians fit perfectly into the story.</div><div><br /></div><div>4. I have a special fondess for Erle Stanley Gardner, been to festivals in his name, visited the wonderful display of his life, and read lots of his books. Years ago, I was privileged to meet three of his secretaries, and having him appear to Tempe in her dreams seemed perfect.</div><div><br /></div><div>5. Winston</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">I suffer from
news junkie-itis. At times, I think I must be a glutton for punishment,
especially these days, given what weβre bombarded with on the nightly news and
in daily newspapers. I have many friends who havenβt read a newspaper, either
digital or paper, or watched network or cable news inβ¦well, in what seems like
forever. They claim itβs just too depressing. And it is. But I canβt stop.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">So why do I
subject myself to a constant bombardment of everything thatβs going wrong in
the country and the world? The simple answer is that for me, the news is plot
fodder. Even though I write humorous cozy mysteries, the plots and subplots of
my books have all been inspired by whatβs going on in the world around me.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Anastasia,
like her author, is a Jersey girl. I not only went to school with Mafia family
members, but I grew up hearing stories about how my grandfather, as captain of a
major county police force, brought many of the Mafia to justice. Consequently,
Anastasia has had plenty of run-ins with the Mafia.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Iβve also
used more recent news events as inspiration. These include a woman on trial for
salt poisoning, Bernie Madoffβs Ponzi scheme, murders that have occurred on
cruise ships, serial killings in a nursing home, and The Watcher case, to name
just a few. (As for The Watcher, if youβve seen the Netflix movie inspired by
the events, itβs nothing like what really happened. You can trust me on this.
It took place at a home a few blocks from mine.)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">A Crafty
Collage of Crime</span></i><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"> is
the twelfth book in my Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery Series. Even though
the book is about Anastasia and Zackβs honeymoon in Tennessee wine country
(yes, it really is a thing!), I was inspired by the recent implosion of FTX,
the cryptocurrency exchange, and the arrest of its founder and CEO, Sam
Bankman-Fried.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">In addition,
the subplot in the book was inspired by the popularity of true crime podcasts.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Even before I
began writing about my reluctant amateur sleuth, my earlier romances and
romantic suspense books were inspired by the news. Authors get their
inspiration from many different sources. Mine has always been a result of my
chronic news junkie-itis and probably always will be.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Wherever
crafts editor and reluctant amateur sleuth Anastasia Pollack goes, murder and
mayhem follow. Her honeymoon is no exception. She and new husband,
photojournalist (and possible spy) Zachary Barnes, are enjoying a walk in the
Tennessee woods when they stumble upon a body on the side of a creek. The dead
man is the husband of one of the three sisters who own the winery and guest
cottages where Anastasia and Zack are vacationing.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">When
the local sheriff sets his sights on the widow as the prime suspect, her
sisters close ranks around her. The three siblings are true-crime junkies, and
thanks to a podcaster who has produced an unauthorized series about her,
Anastasiaβs reputation for solving murders has preceded her to the bucolic
hamlet. The sisters plead for her help in finding the real killer. As Anastasia
learns more about the women and their business, a host of suspects emerge,
including several relatives, a relentless land developer, and even the sisters
themselves.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Meanwhile,
Anastasia becomes obsessed with discovering the podcasterβs identity. Along
with knowing about Anastasiaβs life as a reluctant amateur sleuth, the
podcaster has divulged details of Anastasiaβs personal life. Someone has
betrayed Anastasiaβs trust, and sheβs out to discover the identity of the
culprit.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">Research in writing, or so Iβd guess, is little
different from research in any other occupation. As a nurse, learning about a
new diagnosis, a new med, or a new treatment requires spending some time
reading and talking with other, more knowledgeable people. In my first three
young adult novels, there wasnβt much research involved as Nora Bradyβmy main
characterβwas a student nurse; I knew everything about that, didnβt I? When I
wanted her to move into law enforcement, howeverβsomething about which I knew
next to nothingβI knew Iβd have to talk to the experts there, so I reached out
to my local sheriffβs department.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">The sheriffβs department was more than
accommodating. I was able to interview the officers in charge, take a tour of
the offices, and schedule a ride-along. I was also lucky enough to be living in
one of the only counties in Californiaβprobably in the countryβwhere the
coronerβs department utilized volunteers, and their staff was part of the
sheriffβs department. I wanted the experience of assisting with autopsies, but
more than that, I wanted the story behind an autopsy.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">While Nora Brady moved on to become a detective with
the sheriffβs department, she continued to work as a per diem nurse at the
local hospital. That didnβt require much research, but when I started writing
my first standalone novel, BIGAMY, real research was involved. Set in the 1930s,
it was based on an actual case in a state about which I knew little. (<i>Newspapers.com</i>
subscription). There were little things like fixing peanut butter sandwiches on
Wonder Bread. Did they have peanut butter and Wonder Bread in the 1930s? One character
goes to jail and then to prison. What was the difference? What was it like? And
last year, I took a road trip to Nebraska to begin researching the life of my
great-aunt who came from Ireland (<i>Ancestry.com</i> subscription), worked as

much of marine life and has the potential as a future food source for man. In
this novel, Nora Brady leaves her position as a detective with the sheriffβs
department following a personal tragedy. As a registered nurse, she takes a job
in the hospitalβs oncology clinic. When itβs discovered that a recently treated
patient dies while on a cruise, and an autopsy shows no evidence of his having ever
had cancer, Nora and her team are left to wonder if he was the only victim.</span>

that each of us got a new library card. I'm a lifelong reader, and my favorite
books have always been mysteries---the new and the classics. Like many writers,
I thought of writing for many years before finally sitting down and doing so.
My first novels were an attempt to show young readers what nursing was like
today, as there didnβt appear to be anything out there beyond those series of
the β50s and β60s. This resulted in my first three young adult novels.</span></span></p>

to take Nora into adulthood with a new mystery series for adults, beginning
with <i>The South Spit Murders, </i>followed by a stand-alone novelβ<i>Bigamy</i>βand
my next two Nora Brady mysteries, <i>A Haunting on Dunbar Lane </i>and my
newest novel, <i>Oncology</i>. In the adult series, Nora has the somewhat
enviable opportunity to merge her talents for nursing with those of law
enforcement.</span></span></p></div></td></tr></tbody></table>
