VIOLENT DEPARTURES and Where it Came From

If I'm remembering correctly, I read a newspaper account of a woman disappearing from her car--but never read anything about the outcome.

In this particular book, there's a lot of history about Rocky Bluff itself, all fictional since the town itself is too. But this history sheds some light on the mystery itself.

There is reference to Charlie Manson in this story--and I do remember when we first learned about him and his evil ways. His ranch was located fairly near the beach town where we lived at the time. And his followers were known to raid the trash cans behind the market near our home for food.

I also learned that my son-in-law had been invited to visit the ranch--fortunately he never did.

People remained nervous about Manson and his crew for a long, long time, even those not close to where the "family" hung out.

One of the ways the mystery is solved is contained in a high school year book. I took a good look at my yearbook and the messages people had left me, plus the many photographs, and they all gave me some good ideas.

Of course there's a lot more going on, but that's where some of the ideas came from.
