Three important characters in Murder in the Worst Degree are old friends of the murder victim who hang out in McDonald's. They are based on a group of men we used to see gathered together every time we went to McDonald's. We saw them so often, they greeted us like friends. Since that time, I'm stopped in several McDonald's for a quick breakfast and noticed other such groups of men gathered.
