Interview with Nicole Langan, Tribute Books Publisher

About being a publisher:   I've spent roughly the last 12 years in the publishing world. I have a B.A. summa cum laude in English and Communications. From 1999-2004, I went from being an intern to an editorial assistant to an associate editor of a regional magazine. In 2004, I started Tribute Books. Since that time, I've worked with dozens of authors, illustrators, photographers and editors in publishing over 30 books. Some of our books have gone on to win awards such as the Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year and the Mom's Choice Award while others were endorsed by PBS and The Thoreau Society. We've published a wide variety of genres from children's picture books to history to sports under both traditional and subsidy contracts. In 2012, we'll embark on a new transition becoming solely an e-publisher of young adult titles. There will be no charge for the young adult authors we select to work with, and they will receive 50% of the net pro...

Slippery Willie's Stupid Ugly Shoes by Larry Peterson

Image
Slippery Willie's Stupid Ugly Shoes is a fun book to read with great illustrations. Though there's definitely a message contained in the story, it is delightfully told. It's the kind of book that would be great to read in a classroom--and there's a bonus at the end: questions the teacher can ask the kids to get them thinking. Author Peterson has done a fantastic job showing a kid who is different and how he's treated at school, but in a fun way. This book is recommended not only for classrooms but also for moms and dads to read to their kids. I loved it. Second Chance by Sandra J.Gerencher

Image
Second Chance tells how adoption saved both a boy with autism and the dog from the shelter. The story is told from the POV of Chance, the dog who is rescued from the animal shelter. Because the story is all from Chance, there are some things not fully explained at first, but once the dog begins a relationship with P.J., the boy with autism, what has gone on before is revealed. This is a heart-tugging story for anyone who loves dogs and knows what a dog can do for a child--even one with autism. It lifts one's spirits to read a story like this with such a good outcome. Second Chance was published by Tribute Books and is available from Amazon.com
