Crimes from the Call to the Investigation to Court

My notes taken from the PSWA Conference.

Moderator: Dave Cropp

Panelists: Colin Conway, Bob Doerr, Scott Decker, Johns Schembra, Darlene Record

In court, the more they grill you, the worse it gets.

The police need a search warrant to search.

At a crime scene, creat and inner and outer perimeter. Must know who came in during the investigation. The one in charge of the crime scene is reponsible for the scne.

Evidence needs to stay in custody.

There is a difference in how FBI and local officer handle crime scens.

In court, only say what happened, yes or no. Important what impression you make on the jury. Important to look at the jury and speak the truth.

Describe what you saw perfectly because you don't want to expose yourself to ridicule.

Need to work with the prosecuting attorney.

If the patrol officer is firat at the crime scene, he/she is responsible for it until the detectives come and take over.

Every step of the investigation is important.

Federal court supersedes.

Remember, these are merely the notes I took
