Interview of Deputy Cande Hernandez of Dark Descent

Image
Today I’m sitting across from Deputy Cande Hernandez from the town of DryLake Texas. So Cande, just why’d you become a cop? Uncle Jack gets the credit for that.   He and my dad were close friends and was always around as I grew up.   I remember listening as he told Dad some of the things that happened on the job. Silly things like the time a rancher’s cows got out and ended up in the middle of town grazing in the square. And sometimes not so silly things like the time he found a dead body doing a welfare check. Naturally, as a kid, I was fascinated by his handcuffs. He finally bought me a pair of my own when I was seven or eight, after that it was a fingerprint kit. Then as I got older, he’d let me ride along with him. He never let me anywhere near danger but catching bad guys was exciting, and helping those in need felt good. I never thought of doing anything else. You work for your Uncle Jack now. How does this affect your relationship on and off the ...

An interview with Chuck Sparks Q. Tell us about yourself, Chuck? A. I used to be a real estate salesman. I enjoyed my job until I made the mistake of crossing the line. I didn’t want to try and cheat that old woman out of her house, but the money was too good. I have a daughter, Betsy. She lives with her mother, except for recently when her mother was relocating to Richmond , Virginia . It was a bad time to leave her with me. Q. Why do you say that, Chuck? A. Well, I made another mistake. I won’t go into that right now. Times have been tough. I was willing to try anything. I ended up dead. That’s right. Dead as a doornail. I made the mistake. Betsy shouldn’t have to pay for it. Q. Is that why you contacted Mayor Dae O’Donnell? A. That’s right. I needed her help. No one realized Betsy was missing. Those scums that killed me took her. Dae is good at finding things. I’m sure she can find Betsy before it’s too late. She found me. Well, she found my body. She’l...

Murder on the Interstate Author: Sarah, why is it that you and Dana are always stumbling over bodies? Sarah: They don’t call us murder magnets for nothing. Author: It’s a pretty gruesome hobby, don’t you think? Sarah: And expensive. Dana wrecked two motorhomes and two Hummers since the series started. Author: Why two Hummers? Sarah: You should know. You wrote the plot. Author: I don’t plan plots in advance. I just sit down and type as fast as I can to keep up with you two. And you get into some of the darndest situations.” Sarah: I was sound asleep when Dana stopped the motorhome along 1-40 in northern Arizona when that Mercedes convertible went off the road. I didn’t tell her to stop. Author: I know. You stayed in the motorhome when the trucker,” Big Ruby” McCurdy stopped to help. Why didn’t you go with them to investigate. Sarah: It was pouring down rain. Author: You’re not the wicked witch of the West. You wouldn’t have melted. ...
