My Valentine
My Valentine as a boy |
This is what he looked like when I married him |
After almost 60 years of marriage |
He's also my love and my best friend and I can't imagine my life without him.
We've gone through a lot together and separated during the Vietnam War when he was deployed there three different time with the Seabees.
We raised five great kids to adulthood, grieved together when we lost our oldest son to cancer.
We worked together when we had our own business, a residential care home for developmentally disabled women for twenty-three years.
Now both retired--though we're still working plenty--my sweetheart is supporting me as a writer. He travels with me when I'm promoting my books and attending mystery conventions. We've been having a great time together.
What's the secret to our long marriage (60 years in October)? You don't give up. Too simple, you say? My argument is things happen, you won't always agree, sometimes you won't like your spouse very much, but hang in there, it'll get better. Oh, the bumps will still be there, it'll just get easier to slide over them.

Happy Valentine's Day to you both.
Keep up what you're doing and you'll make it to 60 years, Linda.
