Tulare County Historical Society

Today at 2 I'm giving a talk about my books to the Tulare County Historical Society which is meeting in the old Southern California Edison building in Exeter.

I'll be talking about my historical family saga, Two Ways West, the second book I ever  had published. It's out of print but I have a few copies left. It's based on the genealogy of my dad's family who settled where Springville is today, on a land grant.

I'm also going to speak about some of my latest Deputy Tempe Crabtree mysteries as they are also set in Tulare County--though the town where Tempe is the resident deputy has similarities to Springville, I've called it Bear Creek and moved it 1000 feet higher into the mountains. (I wanted more trees and more frequent snow storms.)

Of course I'll have books for sale--however I know I'm in competition with the Super Bowl, so whether or not I'll have much of an audience is a mystery.

Wish me good luck.

I'd much rather hear more about books than the superbowl. Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the well wishes Mason and Vicki. I appreciate your thoughtful comments.

Hello Marilyn,

My name is Toni Hoffman and I am just starting research on my father's family who were pioneers and farmers in Tulare, beginning in 1878. The original settler was (either) Issac or Simon Hoffman, who came from Germany. His family remained in Tulare; some are still there.

My great-grandfather was Fred Clark Hoffman who in 1939 donated the land on which the current Grange Hall is located at 1943 W. Inyo St. He owned about 200 acres at the time and donated the site so the Grange could build a hall for community meetings.

I am now living in Wasco, CA (about 50 mi. south). My father, who grew up in Tulare is still living (age 83)and we are e-mailing about his memories. I plan to make several trips to do more research and look forward to reading your books (if I can find them).

Anyway, I was very pleased to run across your blog. Only wish I had seen it earlier.

Kind regards,
Toni Hoffman
