Springville Apple Festival

Our little village of Springville in the foothills of the Southern Sierra is holding its annual Apple Festival this coming weekend. I'm going to have a booth with all my books. Because it's outside, unless you want to roast or freeze depending on the weather, you need to bring your own canopy (I have an E-Z Up--though it isn't), a table and two chairs. Of course if you plan to sell anything you always need a cash box with change.

Springville celebrates the apple harvest by selling all things apple, hundreds of apple pies, (Springville Community Club makes them and they sell out fast), apple everything else you can think of. Only homemade crafts are supposed to be for sale (however, I wonder about some of the items), there's entertainment, and a Kiddie Village. Oh, I almost forgot, there are lots and lots of food booths too.

At some of the Apple Festivals they've had 30,000 people. Lots of folks buy their Christmas presents at this two day event.

For the sellers, like me, we have to be set up and vehicles off the street by 8 a.m. And if you want to come back the next year, unless you sell out, you have to stay until 5 p.m. both days.

The Apple Festival has always been a good event for me, sales wise and in terms of talking to many people about my books--fantastic.

So, if you're in the area, drive up 190 to Springville, park in the rodeo grounds parking lot, and hop on a shuttle provided by Eagle Mountain Casino. Look for me in the parking lot of the Springville Inn. Not sure exactly where, but my booth number is 345.

And if you're a fan of my Deputy Tempe Crabtree mystery series, you might recognize some of the places I write about in my books.

That's a pretty great idea - selling books at an apple festival! How many books can you sell at something like that? Also, what kinds of giveaways work for you, if any?

Hi, William, I've sold between 300 and 500 books total each year. I missed last year, so don't know if the economy will have an adverse effect. I'm giving away a free book (choice of 3 of my older ones) for every two books purchased.
