I often ask other others what inspired the book--here's my answer about this one.

I've belonged or visited many churches over the years--met and listened to good preachers and bad, some were true ministers to their flock, some not. And if you ever want to find an intriguing cast of characters, churches are full of them.

I am not bad-mouthing churches--I love the little church I go to and the members. We have a preacher who is a true minister and cares for and watches over his flock. Like all churches, interesting souls come and go. The only church I as in where one of the members was murdered was years ago when I was a child. (No mystery about it, a wife killed her husband with an axe and ended up in a mental institution. I overheard one of my mom's friends say, "he was so boring if I were married to him I'd have done the same thing."

None of the characters in No Sanctuary are fashioned after people I've known, but rather bits and pieces of them and their personalities.

The tale about the pedophile is based on a true story I heard while attending a Sisters in Crime meeting.

And of course, anyone who has read any of the Rocky Bluff P.D. series will recognize some of the characters.
