Joyce Lavene Interviews Chuck Sparks
An interview with Chuck Sparks
Q. Tell us about yourself, Chuck?
A. I used to be a real estate salesman. I enjoyed my job
until I made the mistake of crossing the line. I didn’t want to try and cheat
that old woman out of her house, but the money was too good. I have a daughter,
Betsy. She lives with her mother, except for recently when her mother was
relocating to Richmond , Virginia . It was a bad time to leave her
with me.
Q. Why do you say that, Chuck?
A. Well, I made another mistake. I won’t go into that right
now. Times have been tough. I was willing to try anything. I ended up dead.
That’s right. Dead as a doornail. I made the mistake. Betsy shouldn’t have to
pay for it.
Q. Is that why you contacted Mayor Dae O’Donnell?
A. That’s right. I needed her help. No one realized Betsy
was missing. Those scums that killed me took her. Dae is good at finding
things. I’m sure she can find Betsy before it’s too late. She found me. Well,
she found my body. She’ll help Betsy. I wish I could be more help to her. I
just don’t have this whole ghost thing down yet.
Q. What would you tell other wrong-doers who could end up in
your place?
A. I’d say, look at what you’ve got. Believe me, it’s better
than the alternative. I wish I had it to do over. My little Betsy will grow up
now without a daddy. When you know you’re about to cross that line, take a step
back. Nothing is worth it.
Blurb:
The
mayor of Duck, North Carolina ,
Dae O’Donnell, is a woman with a gift for finding lost things. When her boyfriend Kevin’s ex-fiancĂ©e Ann arrives in Duck
looking for a second chance, Dae suddenly finds herself facing certain
heartache. And while her romantic life is in shambles, she’s even more
concerned by the sudden change in her gift. After touching a medallion owned by
a local named Chuck Sparks, Dae is shocked when her vision reveals his
murder—and a cry for help. Dae doesn’t know what to make of the dead man’s plea
to “Help her,” until she has another vision about a kidnapped girl—Chuck’s
daughter, Betsy. With a child missing, the FBI steps in to take over the case.
But Dae can’t ignore her visions of Betsy, or the fact that Kevin’s psychic
ex-fiancé might be the only person who can help find her.
