An Abandoned Cabin




This photo of an abandoned cabin got my imagination churning out ideas I knew I wanted to use in Violent Departures. That's the title of the Rocky Bluff P.D. mystery coming out sometime in March.

So here are the questions that popped into my head.

Where could this cabin be in Rocky Bluff?

How did it get there?

What significance will it have in the story?

Even without the answers, I knew I had to write about it.

Love pictures of old houses and cabins that have been abandoned, Marilyn. They all seem to absolutely shout there's a story to be told about them. I'll be anxious to see where it ends up in Rocky Bluff.

This pic just begs for a story. To me, it looks like a happy place, where a family spent many hours together. The sadness comes when younger generations don't value the quiet and simple pleasures. Neglect is what I see, not a terrible tragedy that led to abandonment.
Yup, a picture can conjure up stories!

I can really relate, Marilyn. An abandoned cabin was part of the inspiration for a ghost town book I wrote. Any kind of abandoned building can get the writer's creative juices flowing. I can't wait to see what you do with this.

Isn't it amazing how a photo can make you think different storylines?
It could be the realization of a dream, a romance with the person next door, or even a horror story.

Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special.
