Life is full of Changes

An organization I upgraded about 30 years ago, spent much of my life writing newsletters for, lobbying on behalf of the members (many trips to Sacramento), teaching mandatory training classes from Bakersfield to Fresno, and so much more as ceased to exist.

Like many such organizations, lack of membership--and new younger people to take over key jobs was partly to blame, though there were other factors. Needless to say, I feel sad about it, but like so many things in life, changes are inevitable.

On the positive side, it frees up a great deal of my time, something I never have enough of. Of course it seems, other things pop up that need tending to.

Hubby and I once attended nearly every Bouchercon and Left Coast Crime, and had a great time meeting new people, making friends, and exploring cities all over this United States. We both enjoyed flying.

Lack of extra finances and not really enjoying the long waits, rushing to a gate, changing planes and airports has ceased that part of our lives. It was great fun while it lasted.

Neither hubby or I like driving distances or at night anymore. Thankfully we have lots of relatives who are willing to do the driving for us.

I once loved putting on dinner parties--did many of them over the years, small ones for a few friends, wedding receptions for family, a huge 80th birthday party for my mom, but no more. Oh, I still cook dinners, but nothing like I once enjoyed.

I used to be a nightowl, especially when I was working. No more, now I'm early to bed and early to rise.

Over the years I've belonged to many organizations and held offices, from PTA to social clubs. No more--I just don't have the time or energy. I'm still a member of two chapters of Sisters in Crime and try to get to as many meetings as I can, as well as the Tulare-Kings Writers group. And of course, I try not to miss any of the meetings of the critique group I belong too.

Frankly, my life has changed a lot and I don't mind.

What hasn't changed is my faith in God, my love for my family and my love of writing.

And that's where I am at the moment.

So true about life changing! Merry Christmas, Marilyn, Hap, and lovely family!

I know how you feel and kinda where you are. With the death of my dad in November, I'm now an orphan. :-) My hubby and I are also now the "oldest generation" in our family. We still keep going, but are loving earlier to bed more and more. I still love to travel on my mission trips, but am starting to dread those long 35-hour journeys to get there.
I've even considered NOT renewing my memberships in MWA and SinC as what I write now are mostly articles and hopefully a children's book.
But like you, I am so glad that God does not change, nor does His Gospel. This we can hold on to till life is over.
Wishing you and your big family a very merry CHRISTmas and a fulfilling New Year.

I think "changes" is the definition of life. You do it so gracefully, Marilyn. Makes me wish I'd known you sooner! Merry Christmas to you, Hap, Lisa, and family.
Thank you, Jackie and Thonie for you comments, and Merry Christmas to you all!
