A DEAD MAN'S HONOR by Frankie Y. Bailey

Frankie Y. Bailey has done it again. A Dead Man’s Honor has everything this reader hopes for in a mystery:

A strong female heroine, Lizzie Stuart, who is a crime historian and serving for a year as a visiting professor at the university.

A great setting: Piedmont State University and the city of Gallagher, Virginia.

Lizzie’s real motive for being in Gallagher is to research a book about the 1921 lynching her grandmother witnessed when she was only 12. During the research she learns unsettling secrets, some involving the people who have history in Gallagher or still live there.

A nice touch of romance for Lizzie though it is completely overshadowed by the murder of a fellow faculty member—one she barely knew though he wanted to become much better acquainted.

There are a group of unique characters who have various possible motives for the killing the professor.

From start to finish, this is a most satisfying read. Definitely Five Stars!

Bio: Frankie Y. Bailey is a professor in the School of Criminal Justice, University at Albany. She has written many non-fiction books, the latest: African American Mystery Writers: A Historical and Thematic Study, as well as other mysteries.

I had the pleasure of meeting Frankie Y. Bailey at an Edgar Awards Banquet many years ago. She was one of my table companions, friendly and fascinating. I think this was before she had published her first mystery.
