PSWA Post Mortem--Pre-Conference and Get Acquainted Get-Together

The PSWA Conference began with the Workshop on Thursday A.M. I talked about character and setting description.

Mike Black's presentation covered several pertinent points:

A short story might be between 3000 to 2000 words, check the submission guidelnes.

Keep things tight.

Know the market.

Read all the stories in the magazine you want to submit to.

From three until the party was registration time. I love to hang out there and see and greet everyone as they arrive. Fun to catch-up with old friends, and meet the new attendees/

This year, we received great new tote bags. I had a surprise in mine, retired FBI agent R. Scott Decker gave me a copy of his book, Recounting the Anthrax Attack.

Good friend, John Schembra introduced hubby and me to Jim Hasse, who served in Vietnam with a special forces unit during the same time hubby was over there.

Two folks I haven't seen for a long, long time came, Sarah Cortez and Darlene Record, both former police officers turned writers. Great fun catching up with them.

It is so much fun to see all these people, including the members of the board of directors who I do see twice a year: President, Michelle Perin-Callahan, Vice-President and Membership Chair, John Schembra, Treasurer and Web-Maven, Mysti Berry, AV Equipment: Tim Dees, Scott Decker, not sure of official title but he does a lot, Michael A. Black who has the tremendous job of planning the conference program, and I'm the newsletter editor.

I'll continue on with this in my next post.
