Scary Things #8

This is about another hurricane. Actually, we had experienced another while living in Little Creek. It was so violent it took the front door of our apartment building right off. However, being young we weren't the lease bit scared and even went out to the beach to watch the waves crash onto the parking lot. A freighter was actually washed aground during this storm.

The biggest hurricane (Isabel) we experienced was in Cambridge MD. We'd flown there for hubby's high school reunion (the last flight to land because of the coming hurricane) and rented a car, a brand new station wagon. Hubby chose to get flood insurance on the car.

We just made it over the Chesapeake Bay bridge before it was closed because of high winds. We made it to our destination, my husband's cousins' home right on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

The house sat back from the narrow street that ran along the shore line. They had a nice little beach and a dock.

We enjoyed a nice home cooked meal, had a great time visiting, and the wind and rain increased. We watched the news on TV, and Isabel was headed our way with a vengeance, causing all sorts of damage.

We went to bed. Once in the night I got up to go to the bathroom and a candle was burning in there. No electricity.

When I woke up the next morning I looked out the window to the backyard. It was covered with water. Went to the front and the bay water came right up over the front porch. Our brand new rental car bobbed up and down.

A young neighbor came over to check on us, and we decided when the tide went out the car would go with it, so he tied the car to the porch railing.

Of course the dock had disappeared. Small boats went up and down where the road had been. A huge Army vehicle drove down the road to check on people.

We were stranded for most of the day until the water receded. We called the rental company, and that evening they came and got the no longer driveable station wagon and brought us another car.

And to be honest, though scary, this was also an exciting adventure. And yes, the high school reunion went on.

Wow! What a scare! And Yay for flood insurance ;)
Yes, hubby decided to get it when we rented the car and thank goodness he did!
Of course he grew up in the area, I had no idea what to expect.

Well written! Regular Differential Services is essential for smooth handling, improved traction, and overall vehicle performance. Proper maintenance helps prevent excessive wear, reduces noise, and ensures longevity of drivetrain components. Keeping the differential in top condition is key to avoiding costly repairs and ensuring a safe, efficient ride.
