Doctors in General, My Docs Over the Years

A recent discussion with writer friends made me think about the doctors I've had over the years.

But first, I was brought up with this tidbit that my dad was fond of saying, "Doctors are just practicing," because of practicing physicians.

Our family doctor was an osteopath, Dr. Reed. He was great. He made house calls and had a charming personality. He also liked to play our piano. He took care of during serious bout of the flu, me when I had rheumatic fever, and he took out my tonsils.

When my 2nd baby had a terrible infection on her toe, my mom's family doc at the time prescribed an ointment that didn't work. I turned to the father of one of my high school friend's dad, Dr. Trotter. He prescribed something that worked.

My first child was delivered by a popular doctor in Cambridge MD. Too popular, and perhaps the only one, it was a very small town then. Waiting time could be hours. Once I fell sound asleep on the examining table.

Because hubby was in the Navy, I and the whole family saw all different doctors--most were interning while in the Navy.

I switched to my favorite doc who delivered the last three of my kids in Oxnard in the old St. John's hospital, Dr. Huff. He was gruff like my dad, and had a great sense of humor. He would take my phone calls and give me advice. He often told me old-wive's remedies when I wasn't pleased with the Navy doc's care.

We moved to Springville and right away I met the very young Dr. Sidhu from India. He took care of the ladies who lived in my care home. Always gracious and kind, the ladies loved him.

Dr. Gregory lived across the highway and became my dad's doc. I called on him when we had an emergency in the night. He'd ride over on his 4 wheel ATV wearing his p.j's, and give me whatever advice was necessary. He became my doctor until he moved away.

Now Dr. Sidhu is my husband's and my regular doc, still gracious and kind. Hubby and I see him together. Everyone likes Dr. Sidhu, so the waiting times can be long.

We both also got to Dr. Sagar-Reddy for our hearts. And like Dr. Sidhu, he sees us at the same time.
The best thing about these visits is we never have to wait. His office staff really has it together!

We've been fortunate with our medical care over the years.
