I love the title of this book and I'm not the one who thought it up. An author friend, Wanda Porter, put a comment on a Facebook post I'd written, that I should give one of my Rocky Bluff P.D. mysteries that title. I loved it. Before I even started writing, I put that title on the first page.
The ideas flowed for the book as I'd already been thinking about things I wanted to do. When you have an ongoing cast of characters, I always want to create events that effect each one--both good and bad things, much like what happens in real life.
The plot flowed along easily, but something kept nagging at me. How was I going to tie in the title with what I'd written?
I was nearly through with the book before it came to me--how the title would fit what I'd written. And to find out what that was, you'll have to read Murder in the Worst Degree.
And I'll end this post with another reviews;
“Except for the dead body
washed up on the sand, conditions were perfect for surfing.”
This is the great first line
from the tenth Rocky Bluff P.D. novel by F. M. “Marilyn” Meredith. The book may
easily be read as a stand alone.
Okay, enough of the business
end of the review, let’s talk about why we love Marilyn’s books. The series is
like watching your favorite ensemble television show. The action takes place in
and around the small California coastal town of Rocky Bluff. Each book is like
getting a letter from home about what happened since you last heard from your
relatives.
In this missive we have the
puzzle of Harlan Knight, the body on the shore. How did the elderly man get
into the ocean, especially when he hated water? Suspects abound in his
household and rumor has it he had a secret life. Next we catch up with Barbara
and Ryan. Their baby is about to be born and they have learned that she has
Down’s syndrome. Will this destroy their happy marriage? Lizzie and Gordon have
come to a hard spot in their relationship. The new Police Chief is suddenly
changing everyone’s duties and hours. Officer Aragon has had to undergo serious
counseling and is being put back on the streets on the late shift. Will he
freeze when the time comes to pull a gun? And the little hamlet has a serial
rapist roaming the dark streets.
