The tranquility of the mountain community of Bear Creek is disrupted by a runaway fugitive, a vicious murder, and a raging forest fire. Deputy Tempe Crabtree is threatened by all three.

For those of you who don't know, Tempe is a Native American resident deputy and often gets called upon to help with investigations as Bear Creek is remote mountain community.

She is married to the pastor of the local community church. Sometimes her Indian beliefs clash with her husband's own religious beliefs. 

Here are some of the things that inspired this mystery:

The murder victim came about from an article in a newspaper about a socialite who was murdered and the crime was never solved. The idea came from this but changed as I wrote.

We had an escaped fugitive disappear in our little town--I don't know if they ever found him. In Seldom Traveled, he becomes an important character.

Where we live we are threatened by fire almost every fire season. I have a friend who works for the fire service and he shared much valuable information.

Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special. Everyone loves here, young and old alike. I was in the delivery room when she was born--exciting and wonderous. I babysat her many times until her mom and dad moved to Central California.
