HAMMER, NAILS, Happily Ever After? by Mitzi Kelly
The way I write is similar to the sausage making process. I come up with an idea, throw everything in and then grind it up well. Then I spend countless hours picking out the stuff that tastes yucky!
I started my writing career with a cozy mystery series, THE SILVER SLEUTHS. I absolutely love mysteries and am currently working on the third installment of the series but somewhere between Classic Revenge and Deadly Policy, the idea for a romance series tickled my brain and HAMMER, NAILS, AND HAPPILY EVER AFTER? was created.
I wanted to write a fun, lighthearted romance with strong characters that had personality and purpose. Ginger Carmichael is independent to a fault, determined to carve out a new life after a disastrous relationship. She’ll steer clear of any future involvement and will never, ever find herself entangled with someone she works with. That’s non-negotiable.
However, Greg Tucker can’t seem to get her out of his head. Ginger is an incredible administrative assistant, immediately able to excel on the myriad duties that Tucker Construction requires. But it’s her focused approach to the repairs on her home—and her adamant refusal to ask for help—that fascinate him. He would consider transferring her out to the field where he knew she could work miracles with the crews if she wasn’t already such an asset in the office.
As you can guess, one thing leads to another but with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. And as a tease, suspense adds to their journey toward everlasting love. You can’t take the mystery out of the girl . .

An Excerpt:
He shifted slightly, and she prepared herself for the kiss she was sure was coming. It would be explosive and earth-shattering, just as it had been before. But when after several seconds nothing happened, she raised her eyes. He was looking at her, a satisfied expression on his face.
"I do value your friendship, Ginger. You’re a very special woman, and I’m glad you came into my life. I’m not particularly happy that sex won’t be a part ofour relationship, but I’m glad you warned me. I don’t want to make a fool of myself by trying to seduce you when you so obviously don’t want it.” He took one of the beers from her and raised it to his mouth before placing it on the counter. “Get some rest now, and I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” With that parting remark, he turned and left.
Ginger waited until she heard the front door close before she walked over to the table and sank into one of the chairs. Her hand was shaking as she raised it to take a drink from her beer and then placed the cold bottle against her flushed cheek.
She
might have to rethink this whole friendship thing.
BIO
Raised in El Paso with her three brothers, she credits her parents for providing an idyllic childhood. There hasn’t been a sport invented that the family was not involved in, and Mitzi vividly remembers weekends where the family rushed from a gymnastics meet to a football game, to a baseball game, and then to the golf course, and still somehow fit in family meals and those never-ending pesky chores!
Her family relocated to Houston, but Mitzi moved to San Antonio where she married her soul mate and best friend, John, and in 1982 their son, John Lewis, was born. She was able to follow her dream of creating stories between family life and commercial painting beside her construction-owner husband.
Her first book, a cozy mystery, was published in 2010 and between now and the time she kicks the bucket, she plans on publishing in every conceivable genre. Except horror. Probably not horror. Horror is a little too scary . . .
