DAY ONE OF SPIRIT WIND, ONLY .99 CENTS

 


 Spirit Wind emerged from my love of the mountain town, Tehachapi. I’d been there several times years ago doing bookstore appearances. Plus, we drove by Tehachapi often when on our way to visit family in very southern California and trips to Las Vegas.

Tehachapi has the biggest turbine wind farm in California. These huge machines cover the mountain side and our a definite fascination.

And another big attraction is the railroad loop that goes around one of the mountains. We’ve gone to the lookout point often to watch this amazing engineering feat.

Years ago, a huge earthquake devastated Tehachapi. Homes and businesses crumbled, railroad tracks twisted, and a women’s prison was destroyed.

Ideas started popping up in my imagination of how I could incorporate all of this into a Deputy Tempe Crabtree mystery and I started jotting ideas down, and a plot formed.

Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special. Everyone loves here, young and old alike. I was in the delivery room when she was born--exciting and wonderous. I babysat her many times until her mom and dad moved to Central California. Marilyn: I'm so happy I've had the opportunity to really become acquainted with you. For the readers of this post, I first met Madeline at a book fair in Hanford, then again at the Sisters in Crime/MWA conference in Pasadena, and she came to last year's PSWA conference, and she came to my booksigning at my family reunion in Barstow and we were next to each other at a book fair in San Luis Obispo.
