POLISHING YOUR MANUSCRIPT/GATHERING THE EVIDENCE

From the PSWA Conference:

POLISHING YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Moderator: Kelli Peacock
Panelists: Austin Camacho, Jo Wilkins sub, Jim Guglili, and subs I don't remember.

You need the structure of an outline.

Beta readers will read the amnuscript before it's polished and give feedback. Needs to be someone who knows the genre. Some asked on Facebook who wanted to be a beta reader. Need three or four who like to read your genre.

Questions for them: Did it hold your attention? Did you enjoyr it? Were you confused? Any suggestions?

You  should ask for it back in a week.

Use the beta readers before you send it to the professional editor.

Beta readers may be very different from the author.

Be sure to research any subject you don't know enough about.

GATHERING THE EVIDENCE

Moderator: Pete Klismet
Panelists: Gloria Casale, J. L. Greger, Bob Calkins, Scott Decker, Bob Doerr

Need to be trained to gather evidence correctly.

Gloria Casale said it was difficult to collect evidence in the emrgency room and get it where it needs to go.

Janet said blood was the eaist to handle, taken to the lab of hygiened, easy to analyze. Food substances, over 100 companies doing this, but the FDA lab would be the best.

The federat court is the toughest.

Years ago, the evidence was collected and put in a briefcase.

Bob Calkins said in larger outdoor places to gather evidence might search thousnads of acres. Finding portions of a body--could be taken by an animal. Bone recogniztion. Collect everything, some will go to the detecitves and onto the lab.

Evidence Response Team, ability to identify and label evidence.

Evidence needs to be kept at the right temperature.

DNA is getting better.

There was more, but couldn't read my writing.

We had two more panels, but I was on them and couldn't take notes.

One was on writing in different genres and the other blogging your way to success.

Best way to know what all happened at the conference is to attend--this one was great!
