A Few Tidbits About Spirit Wind


My love of Tehachapi shows through in this tale set in my favorite mountain community. If I had to move somewhere, Tehachapi would be my choice.

I used many real locations in Spirit Wind like the amazing railroad turn around, the place where hikers can be picked up an taken into town, the community of Stallion Springs, and the Tehachapi Police Station, but there are also plenty of made-up spots too.

What was fun to hear was readers who told me they knew exactly where the made-up places were.

The information about the huge earthquake is true--except as far as I know, no inmates escaped like happens in the book.

Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special. Everyone loves here, young and old alike. I was in the delivery room when she was born--exciting and wonderous. I babysat her many times until her mom and dad moved to Central California.
