TEMPE'S FRIENDSHIP WITH TWO JOHN


This first book in the Tempe Crabtree mystery series is the beginning of Tempe's and Nick Two John's unique friendship.

Though Tempe is from the Bear Creek tribe, she didn't grow up on the reservation and doesn't know much about her heritage.

Throughout the series Nick teaches her about her culture and much of the mysticism connected with it.

The story begins with the clash of the Indians against the loggers in the Sierra, and Tempe must arrest Nick Two John.

When the owner of the Inn is murdered, Nick is the main suspect. Tempe begins her own investigation of the murder which puts her in great danger.

This collaboration turned into a lasting friendship. Even after the assignment was done, we continued to support each other through various challenges, both academic and personal. It’s funny how what started as a need for some university assignment writing help turned into something much more meaningful. I’m grateful for those late-night study sessions that brought us together.

For the readers of this post, I first met Madeline at a book fair in Hanford, then again at the Sisters in Crime/MWA conference in Pasadena, and she came to last year's PSWA conference, and she came to my booksigning at my family reunion in Barstow and we were next to each other at a book fair in San Luis Obispo. Today is My Birthday!

I never thought I'd live this long! The last few years, birthday celebrations have usually been a nice dinner out in a restaurant. Hard to do these days. Sometimes cake and ice cream is how we celebrate. This year my granddaughter, Melissa, is doing something special. She's taking her grandpa and me to a place about 1 1/2 hours away for lunch, called The Secret Garden. I've not only never been there, but I've never heard of it. I took a peek on the Internet and it looks like a beautiful place to celebrate most anything. Yes, I'm excited. I'll take pictures and report on it when I get back. Melissa is special. Everyone loves here, young and old alike. I was in the delivery room when she was born--exciting and wonderous. I babysat her many times until her mom and dad moved to Central California.
